More on cricket in Bunwell

Well as I was thinking some time yesterday, an incident in the cricket game came to my head. The third team I am playing for is filled with enthusiastic youngsters.

We were really struggling to bowl well during the game. The pitch was not offering us anything and the only way to bowl was to bowl fuller at the batsmen. Geoff, our captain asked one of his really young bowlers to have a go. This youngster kept banging the ball short and was getting hit for runs. In my desperation, I went to Geoff and asked him to tell the bowler to bowl fuller length deliveries. Geoff replied 'Balaji, they are kids. He does not intent to bang the ball short. That is the way it is coming....'. It was really like a hard shake for me. In my competitiveness, I had forgotten the fact that we were playing with bright kids. They don't know everything. They are there for the fun of it and give their heart out. What more can someone expect out of them. The only thing that needs to be done was to encourage them to reach new mile stones and new boundaries. They all field better than me and give their heart out. What right do I have to complain. Should I not be playing the game to enjoy it and cherish the experience with them youngsters. A very good lesson Geoff....Thank you very much.
