Yesterday evening I went and saw the movie Nacho Libre starring Jack Black. In brief, Jack Black is a friar in a monastery who works there as a cook. He takes care of the orphaned children in the monastery. His life long ambition is to become a wrestling. He wants to participate in a local wrestling tournament and win the prize to buy a bus for the children.
The movie tries desperately to make you laugh by creating antics and various comical situations and succeeds too at times. The kids will enjoy the movie. And Jack Black has nicely done his part. But some times you get a feeling that comedy is desperately tried in those situations where it is not there and it does not make you laugh. Some scenes are good especially the scene in which Jack had composed a song for Sister Encarnacion (whom he secretly fancies) and tries to sing like a boy band song. It really is funny and the audience especially the kids had fits of laughter. But you have seen a lot of good comedy and the movie desperately falls short of expectations.
Verdict: Don’t bother to watch the movie in a theatre unless you have absolutely nothing to do. You can rather rent a DVD and watch it later. It fairs 2.5/5 in my book.
