India's shame

An article in Frontline, an Indian magazine, about manual scavenging still prevalent in India. It is a shame to know that this still happens in metros...Delhi being the primary example....Not easy to digest...But it happens....Has India progressed?

I don't think there is any shame in work which is honest, but it is probably too dangerous to their health to continue. Some plan would have to be made for the 6.76 lakh people who will be unable to earn a living with the installation of modern plumbing. Doing this work is better than starving to death, that is for sure. The real shame is that I hear child labor still exists in India. It is time to get rid of that.

It is degrading Publia....doing this job is demeaning for a human being...I am sure with the money that is being poured in...this labour can be removed. I am sure alternate arrangements can be made with the money that is being poured...
what concerns me is the lack of human will to remove it...what concerns me is the apathy that is shown for people like them......
