What is IG Nobel Prize?

Everyone of you would have heard of Nobel prize, Its importance and the publicity that it receives. But have you heard of IG Nobel Prize? I am sure not many of you would have heard of it.

Here is some facts for you from Wikipedia

The Ig Nobel Prizes are a parody of the Nobel Prizes and are given each year in early October — around the time the recipients of the genuine Nobel Prizes are announced — for ten achievements that "first make people laugh, and then make them think." Organized by the scientific humor journal Annals of Improbable Research (AIR), they are presented by a group that includes genuine Nobel Laureates at a ceremony at Harvard University.

Not that it is insignificant or unimportant in any way.

This year awards were presented to cases like a) Why doesn't a wood pecker have a headache when it keeps banging its head on a tree b) Why does spaghetti break into many pieces instead of just one when broken so on and so forth.
