FMP stands for Fixed Maturity Plan. They are closed ended mutual funds that invest in debt instruments that will mature in the period of the plan. Generally their tenure is from 3 months to 12 months. And as with any mutual fund, their results are not guaranteed.
Live Mint's report says that one can predict the return from and FMP provided you do your due diligence. It is a very interesting read.
